rETURN OF THE deVADASI
A Sacred Return of the Temple Dancers, Priestesses and Embodiment of Shakti in Motion. This is not for performance. This is not for another's entertainment. This is ancestral remembrance in motion. The Devadasi was not a mere dancer for kings or the gaze.
At its root, it held a sacred relationship between body, temple, art, ritual, beauty, devotion, eros, and embodied Shakti.
Her body was not for display, but for devotion.
Her dance was not for applause, but for transmission. She moved not for approval, but for invocation.
Each gesture, each glance, each movement was a transmission from womb to world. Every step evoked memory, invoked divinity and echoed ancestral codes.
Devadasi evoked Shakti and carried stories of the divine through movement, songs and ritual. Polarities danced within the body — the erotic sweetness of Lalita Tripura Sundari, the fierce fire of Kali, the sustaining grace of Vishnu, the still witness of Shiva, the rasa and intimacy of Krishna, all as living principles moving through the body.
But due to colonisation, patriarchy, caste and political rupture her sanctity was distorted. Her sacredness silenced. Her lineage dismantled.
And now, we return not as dancers for the gaze of others, but as vessels of sacred erotic power. As temple bodies who remember what the world tried to erase.
We reclaim ourselves from the gaze that objectified, from the shame seeded by patriarchy, and from the erasure carved by colonisation.
We do not dance to be watched. We move as prayer, as prophecy, as remembrance.
We are not here to be understood. We are here to awaken.
Not just as women - but as living altars of the divine.
Why Reclaim the Codes of the Devadasi?Because sensuality was never the wound. Objectification was.
Because beauty was never the problem. The gaze that consumed it was.
Because the feminine body was never separate from the divine. It was made into something to control, shame, possess, and perform.
The Devadasi current reminds us of the ancient ways — when the body was temple, dance was prayer, beauty was devotion, voice was invocation, art was offering, and sensuality was Shakti.
We reclaim these codes not to claim an identity, but to remember what was severed.
To call the gaze back from the outside world. To return movement from performance back to prayer. To remember the body as altar, yantra, channel, and living temple.
To return to this current is to reclaim:
Feminine sensuality as sacred, not sinful.
The body as altar, not object.
Movement as transmission, not performance.
Voice as invocation, not suppression.
Adornment as devotion, not vanity.
Art as offering, not entertainment.
Beauty as expression of Shakti.
The womb as Sri Yantra
Sensuality as doorway back to the divine within.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
What We Will Explore: The Devadasi: Sacred History & Remembrance: Receive the untold transmission of the Devadasi lineage — not just as an important aspect of history, but as living memory and ancestral presence. Honour the lost lineage and reclaim the sacred role of the temple woman.
Lalita Tripura Sundari Transmission: Devi who brings Shakti through the three worlds — from subtle consciousness into the body, from devotion into movement, from beauty into embodied prayer. We attune to her frequency through the body, where sensuality becomes a pathway to the divine.
Reawakening the Body as Temple, Yantra & Channel: We will explore the womb and body as living Sri Yantra - a sacred geometry of Shakti, union, creation and divinity. We will return to the hips, spine, hands, and feet as channels of Shakti. The body becomes a living channel between realms.
Body Mantra: Sacred sound as vibration moving through the body. Our body not only chanting mantra but deeply receiving it.
Sensual Dance as Devotion: This is not performance. This is offering. We move in ways that are rooted in the womb, guided by Shakti and energy of the Sri Yantra, and free from external gaze. A remembrance of how the feminine moves when seen by the divine alone. Your sensuality becomes sacred again, reclaimed from the gaze of objectification and shame of patriarchy.
Inner Divine Union: Many Devadasi traditions were connected to temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Krishna. We are exploring how these divine principles live within the body:
Shiva as inner stillness. Shakti as movement. Vishnu as the sustaining current that holds beauty, rhythm, harmony, and devotion in form. Krishna as rasa, sweetness, play, longing, intimacy, and the heart’s capacity to be moved by divine love. Become a channel for the divine current within you.

This is for the woman who:
— Feels the stirrings of something ancient in her womb, even if she can’t yet name it
— Was taught to honour gods, but never her own body
— Carries inherited shame around sensuality, pleasure, or desire
— Wants to reclaim the sacredness of her body
— Feels disconnected from her lineage
— Is ready to honour the whispers of her ancestors through ritual
— Has been silenced is now ready to riseThis rite is for you if you feel the pull back to your roots, your power, and your body.
-
This is not about choreography, technique or performance.
This is about remembering - how your hips pray, how your spine speaks, how your hands carry memory.
If you have a body, you already have the temple.
All movements are welcome. All expressions are sacred.
